"My Front Garden"
PHOTO CONTEST WINNER
May 2006
Ranson Johnson
Liberty, Tennessee
Ranson writes, "The photo was taken on a 12 step ladder to get a better angle to show the rock work.  I started the garden about four years ago.  We live right on Main St and wanted to create a very unusual front yard with a striking garden that people could admire as they passed by our house.  I do not consider myself a gardener, but, I am learning.  I know very little about plants - I barely even know the names of the plants in my garden!  I usually just go to a local nursery and pick out what I like - and hope it works as I envisioned.  Most of the plants are evergreen to keep a basic, maintenance-free look all year long.  We made sure to include a bench so we could sit and watch the traffic go by and admire the garden!  With that said, my favorite plants are dianthus, sedum, iris, phlox, low-growing juniper, and creeping thyme."

"Springtime in the South"
PHOTO CONTEST WINNER
June 2006
Kristin Grant
Biloxi, Mississippi
Kristin writes, "Springtime in the south is my favorite.  The flowers just love the heat and thunderstorms.  Looking at the bright colors in these photos just puts a smile on my face.  A perfect example of God's artistry."

"House Wren Baby"
PHOTO CONTEST WINNER
July 2006
Mark Richey
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Mark writes, "This is a picture of a house wren baby about to make its first flight.  This is the bird house in our front yard where this little guy's parents decided to make their nest.  There are actually 4 of those guys in there.  This was the first one to make it out of the nest.  About an hour after this picture my kids and I saw this little guy outside the nest practicing his flying.  His 3 brothers and sisters quickly followed about and hour later.  I'm sure the parents were relieved.  They must have been visiting the nest every 10 minutes with food for the hungry youngsters."

"Fairy Garden"
PHOTO CONTEST WINNER
August 2006
Dianne Collins
Avondale, Pennsylvania
Dianne writes, "I have a little fairy garden.  It's in a patch of ground I once used for roses.  The roses were moved because the garden became to shady from the Chestnut trees we have.  I look for small headed flowers and unusual ones like the Peek-a-boo plant that you just may find in a fairy garden.  I like snapdragons and lobelia in here too.  My husband gave me the miniature clear gazing ball.  Almost everyday that I come out, that little wicker chair has been knocked over.  I wonder who does it?"

"My Spring Garden"
PHOTO CONTEST WINNER
September 2006
Andrea Hauserman
Cleveland, Ohio
Andrea writes, "This photo is the view I enjoy the most in all of my spring gardens.  It took several years for it to all come together and I love to come around this curve in the path."

November 2006
George Wilson
Orlando, Florida
George writes, "In the back of my home here in Florida, we have a small alligator that is a regular visitor to the water plants at water's edge.  One afternoon, I found him with a dragonfly hitchhiker."
