Laura writes: "Moved into this house about 2 years ago and have been making new flower beds each year, hope to fill the yard with all kinds of flower beds from sun to shade. This one was made this Spring. I love shady gardens...they are so cold on a hot day." |

Katie writes: "I just love the brilliance of the rose. Living in Michigan, one forgets summer will come again with such cold winters. The rose signifies warmth and spirit of the summer." |

Steve writes: "I like this photo because the Magnolia is usually one of the first signs of spring after a long, cold winter." |

Heather writes: "Please find enclosed
my photograph taken in early spring in the Fenway Community Gardens in
Boston, Massachusetts. At the time I took the photograph two years
ago, I lived in this section of the city. Since my apartment was a
tiny studio and I had no yard, porch or balcony, these gardens were a
continual source of inspiration, joy and peace of mind from April to
November. I love walking by the hundreds of small plots every day to
and from work.
What I enjoy most about this photo is its sense of promise. Spring is such an exciting time, with life declaring itself everywhere. In this photo, a wheelbarrow stands laden with plants at the edge of a community garden plot. The gate to the plot is open, welcoming the wheelbarrow, and the viewer, into a garden already blooming with tulips and daffodils." |

Valerie writes:
"Three years ago we bought this house, which sits on the point of a
pie-shaped lot and backs up to a man-made lake. At that time, it
was landscaped with trees and shrubs only. Not one flower to be
seen, except for the blooming trees (crape myrtles). The yard
wraps completely around the back of the house and has a pool down by the
lake-side. The potential for a fabulous garden was staggering (to
me). I have really slaved for the past 3 years to make my vision
into reality. But, because the garden is so large and sprawling,
it is impossible to capture it all in a single photo. Garden tours
with my friends take a couple of hours! My collection of the best
garden photos on my computer numbers about 30 pictures. So,
selecting only one was impossible and none of them really convey the
sense of the garden as you round the corner and another wonderful vista
opens up, and you round another corner and there is another whole garden
and then you go out front and...
But thanks for inviting me to share them with you! I drive my email buddies crazy sending flower pictures." |

Jonathan writes that "creating this waterfall type garden into the lake in our backyard was a very rewarding experience. I enjoy gardening very much and find it both relaxes and inspires me in all that I do." |

Ginny Pontrelli says "This is a photo showing how I solved the problem of a narrow strip of desert hardpan that was THE "yard" my new home in Las Vegas had to offer! It features raised planters fashioned of local volcanic rock (that I hauled myself) and cedar peeler core (that I cut myself with a hand saw); filled with a high quality potting mixture. The walkway is one of those concrete-do-it-yourself "mold" jobs that again...I did all by myself and hand inlaid with river rock...However, before you give me any 'Martha Stewart Awards' let me add that my husband Tom did ALL of the housework while I tracked in endless amounts of dirt and left dirty clothes piled on the floor for him to wash while I soaked my aching muscles and whine constantly about how I was too old for this stuff. The thing I like best about this photo though is watching our 2 cats, Garth and Wags thoroughly enjoy every bit of work I did as they take a stroll through MY GARDEN." |
