FRAGRANCE - Get that smell into your garden!
When considering buying flowerbulbs and perennials, remember that some of them have an added value - FRAGRANCE!  Ideally, each garden should have one or two types flowering at different times of the year.  Keep in mind that it is not always the flower that is the scented part; sometimes it can also be the foliage that is aromatic.  Plant some scented climbers such as jasmine or wisteria close by a window that you open in the summer and enjoy it's smell all through the house.

Following is a selection of flowerbulbs and perennials that have the added benefit of fragrance:

.
Amaryllis Bella Donna - Flowers in the Fall, grows about 30" tall and needs mulching for winter.  It is hardy in zones 7-10.

Camassia Esculenta Camassia Quamash - The flowers vary from white through blue to purple.  This bulb is perfect for growing in damp areas close to streams and ponds.

Muscari Armeniacum - Very attractive little Spring flowering bulbs that perennialize very well.

hyacinths_mixed.jpg (253681 bytes) Hyacinths - Extremely fragrant in the garden and also great for indoor forcing.  Available in colors from white to yellow to blue to pink.

Paperwhite Ziva Paperwhites - These are hardy in the South only...in colder climates they need to be grown indoors.

lily_stargazer.jpg (176153 bytes) Oriental Lilies - Stargazer is white and pink with a fine white margin.

Hosta Royal Standard - Green foliage with white flowers.

Narcis Cheerfulness.jpg (42532 bytes) Narcissus Cheerfulness - White clusters of 3 or more flowers per stem

Narcis Yellow cheerfulness.jpg (48881 bytes) Narcissus Yellow Cheerfulness - Golden yellow clusters of 3 or more flowers per stem

Narcissus Baby Moon Narcissus Baby Moon - Multiple small yellow flowers on a single stem

narcissusgeraniumf.jpg (19760 bytes) Narcissus Geranium - 4 to 6 white with orange cup flowers per stem
