Dahlias (Click
here to browse over 100 varieties in our catalog) |

|
|
Our Dahlia selection has
been expanded for Spring 2002 to include over 100 varieties
covering 11 types from short to tall and in 6 different flower
sizes from less than 2" to over 10" across.
Enough said...so how do you grow these wonderful beauties?
Dahlias are relatively easy to grow in the garden and some
types can even be grown in pots on your balcony or patio.
Be sure to stake the taller varieties in the garden at the time
you plant the tuber so as to avoid damaging it if you try to do
it later. It also helps to identify the spot so you don't
confuse the sprout with weeds!
Make sure you provide ample sunlight; together with pinching,
you will ensure your plants do not become
"leggy". The pinching of the center of the plant
as it grow provides you with additional stalks...therefore, more
flowers. If you are looking for flowers with a long stem
and also larger flowers, make sure you just leave one bud on
each stem.
Finally, take some time to browse
our Dahlia selection and reserve your favorites early!
Remember, your credit card will not be charged until your order
is shipped! |

Touch
of Nature's Gardening
Tip |
|
Still didn't plant the bulbs you
bought.....? Get some pots and potting soil and plant them,
water well and keep them in a frost free environment (like your
garage) until winter is over. Then, enjoy these potted bulbs
on your patio or deck this Spring! (See our
previous newsletter
for more information.) Don't throw away your bloomed-out
Amaryllis. Cut off the flower stalk and allow the leaves to
further develop. Keep watering the plant and occasionally
add some house plant fertilizer. Reduce watering at the end
of August and stop completely in October. Then, place the
pot in a cool dark place. In early January, take the bulb
out of the pot, remove the soil and the old dried up roots and put
the bulb in a clean pot with new soil. Your Amaryllis should bloom
again in March.
If your tip is being used in our
newsletter, you will receive a $10.00 gift certificate also
redeemable for any items in our catalogs! Email
us your tip today!
|
We hope that some of these items will find a home in your garden, on
your patio, on your balcony or in your home. You can rest assured
that your order will have our fullest attention and we know that you
will be pleased with the quality results.
Until next time when we'll discuss Hostas, Happy
Gardening!
